Learn How to Read Your Astrocartography Map (Without Getting Lost in It)

Have you ever felt like some places just click as if the air hums a little differently, or your luck stretches further than usual? And then other places… feel like walking through mud?

There’s a fascinating branch of astrology that actually maps exactly that feeling called astrocartography, or the astrology of place, a branch of locational astrology.

After years of studying astrology, I stumbled into astrocartography after multiple synchronicities in sudden travel and spontaneous discovery or remote activation. The synchronicities were way too specific and aligned with timings in my birth chart, along with my astrocartography map, to ignore them. I went into a rabbit hole, and here I am, willing to share even more after guiding 250+ clients within my first year of going public as a locational astrologer.

What is astrocartography and how does it work?

Astrocartography was innovated in the 1970s by astrologer Jim Lewis, who saw how our charts describe how we interact with physical places and was quite in head of time. Each planet in your chart projects a line around the globe, and those lines mark where that planet’s influence becomes stronger.

When you stand, live, or travel along a certain planetary line, you’re effectively stepping into that planet’s field of energy. A certain Venus line might draw connection and creativity. A certain Saturn line might bring structure and challenge. All in all, the point is that all of the lines you see, that colorful spaghetti across the globe, is all an extension of your own self, ready to be met and explored.

Understanding this framework gives you language for the feelings you’ve probably already experienced: the sense that some cities grow you, others ground you, and a few feel like home for no ‘logical’ reason.

Have you tried to launch your astrocartography map and got overwhelmed? Or intimidated by the deterministic info you saw across the internet?

Maybe you finally decided to pull up your astrocartography map. You entered your birth data, hit “generate,” and watched a web of colorful lines explode across the globe.

And then the panic sets in.

Because when you try to make sense of it online, you’re immediately met with too much: dozens of sites and videos telling you that your Saturn line equals guaranteed doom, your Pluto line means you are literally going to die there, your Neptune line heartbreak. It’s a lot. It can sound completely fatalistic, like you’ve just discovered a map of your fate instead of a map of your potential!

I encourage you with a different perspective and approach to astrocartography and locational astrology

When you slow down and let go of all the click-driven noise online, your map starts to make sense. Learn how it’s built, and approach it with curiosity instead of urgency. Before diving into your lines, connect with your intuition, think about the places that have shaped you, challenged you, or quietly called to you, even since childhood. That reflection gives your map context and meaning. A basic understanding of astrology is also necessary, and patience is also very important.

From there, interpretation becomes gentler. Oh, and don’t pressure yourself to try to decode the entire world at once, as you’re just learning to listen to how your chart interacts with place over time. A steady approach over time is key!
